Whilst some initial investment is required, the target position is not only self-sustaining, but represents a major cost saving in a very significant area of expenditure for UN system Organizations. There is also a multiplier effect inasmuch that these savings could be multiplied many times over by corresponding savings in streamlined and improved administrative and operational procedures, introduced into the “UN ERP solutions” on the basis of the combined efforts of experienced practitioners from across the UN system. The target position therefore represents a situation in which UN system Organizations will benefit from:
- Significantly lower costs of introducing, modifying, operating and supporting ERP solutions
- “Ready-made” streamlined business processes incorporated in the ERP solutions, based on the knowledge and experience of UN system practitioners
- A commonality of management information organization and codification across the UN system greatly enhancing inter-agency reporting and the easy interchange of information amongst UN System Organizations
- An improved ability to rapidly absorb and incorporate UN-wide administrative and operational changes in all UN System Organizations
